Proof Gold Twenties Lead Heritage Sale

As expected, the top sellers in the Heritage Sale were Proof Gold Twenties. The 1870 in NGC PR65 Ultra Cameo with the CAC sticker (featured previously) brought $456,000. In keeping with today's market, this was about 10% of a discount on the current listed valuation. Below are some of the other highlights from the Heritage Long Beach Sale, including the top selling Proof $20 Gold. Check with Heritage Auctions for a full list of prices realized.
1899 $20 Gold certified by NGC PR67 Ultra Cameo and CAC
This 1899 $20 Gold in NGC PR67 Ultra Cameo and approved by CAC was the top selling U.S. coin in this sale bringing a very nice final bid of $468,000. It is one of three certified in the PR67 category, but with the CAC sticker it is the finest known. There are only 17 other coins certified in Deep Cameo or Ultra Cameo in all grades; it is likely that there are less than 35 coins surviving in all Proof designations. This beauty has superior surfaces on both sides and looks as pristine as the day it came from the mint. The current value of $290,000 will certainly be reevaluated.
