Long Beach & Baltimore are Back-to-Back

June 3, 2024

Two major shows will be taking place over the next two weeks, first in Long Beach, then in Baltimore; dealers from all over the country will be attending one or both of these typically very active shows. With the metals reaching recent highs over the last couple of months, much of dealer business has been with bullion-related coins, especially with premiums dwindling to their smallest percentages in quite a long time. Gold is currently at $2,344 and Silver is at $30.50.

Along with the two big shows, comes two big auctions. The Long Beach Expo is this week, June 6-8, with Heritage Auctions hosting lot viewing throughout the show with the actual sale at their Dallas headquarters next week. Heritage has a wide selection of Morgan Dollars along with their usual array of high-quality rarities.

The Whitman Expo in Baltimore follows, June 13-15, and Stack's Bowers Galleries is hosting the official auction with lot viewing at the show; the June Showcase Auction is being held at their California offices the following week. Rarities Night will again be the anticipated session with an incredible selection across all series. Both the Heritage and Stack's Bowers sales are highlighted below.

1884 S Morgan Dollar certified by PCGS MS64

The 1884 S Morgan Dollar is part of a secondary key date group in the series. There were over three million coins originally minted, however, the population reports show very few coins certified above the MS63 grade. There is a total of just twenty-five certified MS64 with two of those receiving the + designation. There are just six coins certified above the MS64 grade with one lonely MS68 the highest certified. If the 1884 S is on a want list, this may be a good opportunity to acquire a very frosty fully struck coin in what could be the highest grade available in today's market.

1884 S Morgan Dollar PCGS MS64 is available at Heritage Auctions Long Beach Expo U.S. Coins Signature Auction in Dallas, Texas, June  13-16,  2024
