Gold and Silver Escalating
After a month of lackadaisical activity, Gold and Silver are once again on the move. Gold broke $1,600 this morning and currently boasts a new high of $1605. Silver has been charging the last week and is now at $40.50; that is up over $1.20 for the day. As always, in these volatile markets, check current prices before making any commitments. Accordingly, original Proof Silver Eagles are now trading at $72 among dealers and the one ounce Proof Gold Eagles are at $1,770. Silver bags are wholesaling at $28,800 and VG Silver Dollars have moved up to $33,000 per bag of one thousand.
The Market prices for most rare coins are stable with sporadic changes throughout the LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide this week. We have noticed that most dealer sell prices are slightly higher which may eventually lead to rising prices if transactions occur at these higher levels. For now, the market looks solid with buyers being selective. However, they do have money to spend for coins that appeal to them. We continue to monitor new prices for early copper coins, including Half Cents and Large Cents. This week there are several advances for the 1847 over small 7 Large Cent in grades AU55 through MS65. The MS65 Brown is now at $6,500.
There have been a lot of trades in early Lincoln Cents this past month. More buyers are attracted to better dates in Red and Brown and Red in MS64 and higher grades. Any of these mint marked dates prior to 1928 are very difficult to locate without some sort of spotting problem. Coins with extra eye appeal should attract multiple buyers at auction. The 1913 Red in MS66 is now up to $1,500. The 1918 S Brown in MS64 and 65 are higher at $325 and $850, respectively. The 1925 S Brown and Red and Brown have increased in MS63 and 64. The MS64 is now at $725. Additionally, the always popular 1926 S has a Market price of $1,900 in MS64 RB.
