NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
September 24, 2012
Market Heating Up in Selected Areas
Advancing metals have made the entire market active. Nearly every series is spotted with increases although the more common coins are not in as much demand unless they are discounted. Circulated Silver Dollars are up to $31 wholesale for Very Good condition. Silver bags are just over $24,250 and many analysts think Silver will continue higher in the near term. Proof Gold Eagles are trading at $1,875 per ounce and Proof Silver Eagles are $54. These must be in the original government package for dealers to pay these prices.
Registry collectors may not be as active as they were in the past but many of them remain avid in their pursuit of the best coins certified for the series and date. Even the Lincoln Cents contain various increases in this week's Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. The 1948 Philadelphia in MS67 Red is up to $1,450 Market and the 1956 D in the same grade is $460. Early Proof Lincoln's are always in demand, although some of the dates have retreated from lofty highs of the last two years. The 1909 in PR65 RB is down slightly this week at $1,400 and the Red is lower at $2,125. However, the 1915 PR66 RB is higher at $2,750 and the always tough 1916 in PR66 Brown jumped to $3,250.
Washington Quarters are mixed this week with the following dates adjusted.
1935 D - MS64 - $265 (-)
1936 S - MS66 - $360 (-)
1937 S - MS67 - $2,025 (-)
1939 S - MS66 - $315 (+)
1941 - MS67 - $300 (+)
1944 D - MS67 - $260 (+)
1962 D - MS67 - $1,150 (+)
