NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Advanced Buyers Looking for Early Type Coins
January 26, 2015
Long Beach week has arrived and the metals have responded by drifting to lower levels. After barely breaking the $1,300 barrier last week, Gold has fallen back to $1,279.50 in Monday morning trading. Silver is just under $18 an ounce at $17.93 and Platinum is $1,250.60. Proof one ounce Gold Eagles are trading at $1,450 in OGP and Proof one ounce Silver Eagles are at $44 wholesale. Ninety percent bags of Silver are trading at $13,725 and VG and better Silver Dollars are $23,925.
Heritage Auctions will be hosting the official sale at the Long Beach Expo. Many top quality rarities will be available which include two superb Twenties. One is an 1869 PR65 Ultra Cameo certified by NGC; it is one of three certified in this grade with only one higher at PR67. There are two others graded PR64 for a total of only six for this date designated Ultra Cameo or Deep Cameo. Another tremendous lot and possibly unique coin is the 1908 Saint Gaudens in NGC PR65 Roman Finish. This coin last sold in a Heritage Sale in 2005 for $276,000. Several more potential highlights from the Long Beach Sale are listed below.
1869 $20 Gold PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC is available in the Heritage Auctions Long Beach Expo U.S. Coins Signature Auction in Long Beach, California, January 29 - February 1, 2015

This week's HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide reveals a host of increases across most charts. Early Halves show several advances beginning with the 1795 Flowing Hair in AU55 and AU58; both higher at $16,750 and $17,650, respectively. The 1806 also showed upward movement in MS63 and MS65; the MS65 is now at $67,500 Market.
The Capped Bust Halves chart lists a variety of dates on the move including many in MS63 through MS65. Some of these dates are infrequently encountered. The 1815/2 is up in AU55 through MS60 with the latter now at $15,250.
Seated Halves are also showing plenty of activity as buyers are looking for seldom found rarities in all grades as long as they have problem free surfaces. The 1853 Arrows and Rays Half is higher in MS66 and MS67 this week. This is a date that is usually unattractively toned, but when located with eye appeal, it will command a strong price. The MS67 now has a Market of $69,500.
