NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Central States and Heritage Top Week's Activities
April 25, 2016
The Central States Convention is this week and the featured auction will be hosted by Heritage Auctions. This sale contains numerous rarities led by a 1776 Continental Dollar certified by PCGS as MS65; this is a Pewter specimen and there is only one grading finer.

The 1792 Half Disme in NGC MS63 will attract some advanced collectors. While there are several coins graded higher, many appear to be resubmissions that tend to skew the number of actual coins available.

Possibly the most fascinating of the coins in this sale, the 1792 Disme graded AU50 and another in SP64, both certified by PCGS. These two coins are spectacular for their rarity and quality and should see some very active bidding. Below are some of the other potential highlights from this sale.

Another storyline to follow at Central States, the anticipated 2016 Mercury Dime Centennial Gold coins hit the market, as the first releases are delivered and certified. These were sold by the U.S. Mint for $205 and have already attained a sizable premium with sales of at least $250 in the wholesale market. Watch closely as prices will fluctuate in the 69 and 70 grades over the first few weeks.
The latest edition of the LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide contains a variety of adjustments in Half Cents all the way through Standing Liberty Quarters. Half Cents and Large Cents appear to have more increases than declines with the better dates climbing slightly as collectors are searching for coins that have no detracting marks for the grade. These are two tough series and buyers are very selective as to quality, but if the coin has good eye appeal, they are more than willing to pay the price. The 1804 Half Cent with Crosslet 4, no Stem is higher in MS64 Brown, now at $4,250 Market. The 1844 Large Cent in MS64 RB is up to $2,375.
