NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Jon Alan Boka Collection Highlights Heritage Sale
September 12, 2016
The final leg of the three Long Beach Expos for this year is now complete and reports from this event were very similar to those from the ANA World's Fair of Money just a couple of weeks earlier. The metals began the week on an uptick but faltered toward the end. While there were plenty of dealers and collectors in attendance, they appeared to be having a difficult time agreeing on prices and sales were not as good as expected.
The Heritage Auctions Signature Sale was mixed but some of the highlights made for great press. The 1794 Head of 1793 Large Cent in PCGS AU58+ from the Jon Alan Boka Collection of 1794 Large Cents brought a whopping $176,250. And the star of the sale, also from Jon Alan Boka Collection, was the 1794 Head of 1794 Large Cent with the Starred Reverse, graded PCGS VF35, selling for $258,500. Below are some of the other highlights from this sale.

There are countless changes this week in the Modern Bullion charts, mostly due to the latest downturn in the metals. Gold and Silver Eagles are slightly lower while Platinum coins suffered the biggest declines within the common dates. Platinum $100 coins are lower at $1,090 Market in MS69 and the Proofs in the same grade are now at $1,300. The $50 Gold Buffalo continues to draw lots of interest even though the prices are lower with Gold declining. The MS69 is currently listed at $1,345 in MS69 and the Proof is $1,375 Market.
In the Modern Lincoln Cent series there are plenty of adjustments, although the majority of them are decreasing prices as buyers are looking for bargains while some sellers need to move inventory. The 1938 S in MS67 Red is down to $130 Market and the 1945 Red in the same grade is lower at $220. On a positive note, the 1934 D in MS65 Red is higher at $58.
