NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
High Quality Morgan Dollars Sold at Latest Regency Auction
October 3, 2016
The latest downward trend in the metals has buyers wondering what to do next; many are waiting to see if this market will continue to decline or bounce back as it has on previous occasions. Just when we thought the metals were beginning to head toward positive ground over a week ago, they took a sudden turn and retreated backward. Many investors may be hesitant as the upcoming elections could determine the future direction of the economy.
This week begins with Gold at $1,311.50 and Silver at $18.95. This puts the Proof Gold Eagles at $1,475 for the one ounce coins, which is down $25 from last week at this time. However, the one ounce Proof Silver Eagle is holding steady at $49 to $50.
Legend Rare Coin Auctions hosted their Regency Auction XVIII in Las Vegas this past week. This sale was heavy in high quality and better date Morgan Dollars. Because of its rarity and superb quality, there was some competitive bidding for the 1889 CC Morgan Dollar in PCGS MS64, which sold for $88,125.
One of the more remarkable Morgans in this sale was the 1896 S PCGS MS66 P/L with the CAC sticker; it brought $111,625. Below are some of the other highlights from Regency Auction XVIII.
