Historic 1804 Dollar Brings $3.29 Million
April 3, 2017
Stack's Bowers Galleries just concluded an amazing week. After hosting a successful Whitman Baltimore Expo Auction, they completed Part V of the D. Brent Pogue Collection in conjunction with Sotheby's. This portion of the sale realized over $21 million which brought the total of the five sales to just over $106 million.
The most important highlight of the sale was the Dexter/Pogue/Lipton/Albanese Class I 1804 Silver Dollar in PCGS PR65 which sold for $3.29 million. Kevin Lipton, who also owned this same coin back in 1989, and John Albanese made the buy of the decade when they pooled their expertise to acquire a rarity that many experts felt would bring upwards of $5 million.
