NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
1894 S Barber Dime Hammers at $1.5 Million
September 21, 2020
In what can best be described as a "phenomenal" sale, Heritage Auctions held another of their Signature Sales in Dallas; this one was originally scheduled for the Long Beach Show. While the overall auction was well rounded with an array representing nearly every series, the Bob R. Simpson Collection Part I was the main focus for most buyers. This segment of the sale brought over $14 million.
1894 S Barber Dime certified by PCGS PR66
This coin is widely known as one of the top five rarities in U.S. coinage; it sold for $1.5 million. It is tied for the highest grade for the date and there were only 24 originally minted. Several bidders felt the final price realized was a bargain in today's market. Another PR66 last sold at the FUN show in 2016 for $1,997,500.
